How do you program your universal remote to your tv if it already has a code search button?

its a regular cvs universal remote and it has a "code search" button i pressed it until my tv went off....whats the next step? do i press the "tv" button then "enter" or is it the other way around?? help plz!

1. you can hold in the code search button until red light stays lit then keep pressing channel up button till it changes channel as soon as it does then hit mute button and it should be set. if not there should be an instruction guide with your remote, look for the kind of tv you have there should be a code you type into it.
