what are building code requirements for ecological houses?
I want to design my own eco-house. Are there any web sites or guides for building code requirements for plumbing, electrical, etc? I'm not looking for a thick book with alot of technical jargon and mathematical equations, just the basics ( I just want to design the floor plan and leave the fine tuning to an architect.) I am looking for a general guide for designing an eco-house. If the only thing avaliable are thick books with alot of ... etc., etc. ok. What are they?

- Building code are the same for all houses. And code books are thick with lots of technical jargon. So I don't really understand your question.
- Code would be the same, as far as I know. Code is about safety. USGBC has a lot of resources at their website (below). It explains about green building, renewable resources, LEED points, stuff like that. And has links to a lot of other sites that have info, too. Also, Build it Green has more user friendly info. From what I've been involved in, the contractor/subcontractors will follow usgbc guidelines according to the house plans and submit all their documentation for LEED credits. It's a very tedious process, but well worth it.
